PRIVACY
What this site measures,
and what it never keeps.
The Shotoshot app sends nothing on its own: no account, no telemetry. Its Google Lens search uploads the selected area to Google, only when you click it. This page is about the website only, and it is short because there is little to say.
Audience measurement
I want to know roughly how many people visit this site and download Shotoshot, and which pages or links bring them, to decide what to improve. Nothing else is done with these figures.
When you open a page or download a file, the site’s own server records one event containing only:
- the date and time;
- the page you arrived on, or the file and its version;
- your country, as two letters, and the approximate region and city that Cloudflare derives from your IP address (often the nearest large city, not where you are);
- the broad family of your system and browser, such as “Windows” and “Firefox”;
- the kind of place you came from: direct, a search engine, LinkedIn, Discord, a campaign link or another site;
- whether the request looks automated;
- a pseudonymous identifier, described below.
Never recorded: your IP address, your full browser identification, the address of the page you came from, your precise location, or anything you typed. No analytics cookie is set and nothing is stored in your browser. No third-party analytics service is used.
The pseudonymous identifier
To count one person once instead of counting every request, the server computes a keyed hash from a shortened IP address (its last part is removed first), the family of your browser and system, and the current month. Only the result is stored.
It changes every month, cannot be used on any other website, cannot be turned back into an address, and is never displayed, exported or shared. It makes the figures an estimate, not a list of people.
How long
Detailed events are deleted after 35 days. Only anonymous daily totals remain, without any identifier. The download total shown on the home page is such a plain counter: a number per day and per file.
These figures are not sold, not shared, and not combined with any other data.
Opting out
Turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser: the server then records no event for you. A download is still added to the anonymous total of files served.
Feedback form
The feedback form stores your answers, and a contact only if you choose to give one. To limit abuse, it keeps a keyed hash of your IP address, not the address itself, and runs Cloudflare’s Turnstile check to tell people from robots.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which necessarily processes each request, including its IP address, to deliver the pages and protect the site.
A question, or a request about these data? Write through the feedback form, leaving a contact so I can answer. — Mickaël Mancini
